The Marty Stokes Band has been chosen by the Southwest Florida Blues Society to represent our region at the 2017 International Blues Challenge.
The International Blues Festival 2017, sponsored by the International Blues Foundation, will be held January 31 – February 4, 2017 in Memphis, TN.
Supporters of Marty Stokes and his band plan several local fundraisers in early January. In addition they will be requesting sponserships from local businesses. After the event, a list of sponsors will be published in local newspapers in appreciation of their support.
The Blues Foundation is a Memphis-based world-renowned organization whose mission is to preserve blues heritage, celebrate blues recording and performance, expand worldwide awareness of the blues, and ensure the future of this uniquely American art form. Founded in 1980, The Blues Foundation has approximately 4,000 individual members and 200 affiliated local blues societies representing another 50,000 fans and professionals around the world.
The Blues Foundation celebrates the best current developments in Blues through sponsorship of the International Blues Challenge (IBC), a five-day event that includes both band and solo/duo blues music competition, youth and international showcases and seminars. Typically, over 250 (band, solo/duo and youth) acts from 40 states and two dozen countries participate in the four rounds in Memphis. Significantly, the acts cannot enter directly, but are sponsored by one of our 200 affiliated organizations that are so critical to nurturing Blues culture in their own region. These events and awards are a culmination of activities undertaken by our affiliates and serve our mission by providing a vehicle through which they can promote, preserve and ensure the future of Blues music in their region via their own competitions to determine which up-and-coming act they will send to Memphis for a once-in-a-lifetime artistic and educational opportunity. The top acts receive cash prizes, professional services and career-changing gigs, and each year, competitors other than those judged as “winners” are “discovered” and as a result, doors open for their future musical endeavors.

Thanks you for your support !
Marty Stokes was originally raised on Sanibel & Captiva Islands, Florida and has been playing different variations of Blues Music since he was a kid. Raw and melodic, original, and reaching to the emotional core, Stokes will not disappoint a good blues audience. . A group of long-time friends, the band 'delivers the goods' with tasteful grooves over Stokes' originals, alongside creative arrangements of covers. Jennifer Mazziotti, Daryl Best and Rick Whiteman make up the 'core' of the MARTY STOKES BAND. Jennifer Mazziotti, also well known as Jazzy Mazzy has been playing faithfully alongside Marty for the past seven years, and laces their sound with wonderful harmonies and jazz overtones. Jennifer's artistic contributions are well evident in his lastest CD release as well. Reviews are great on the compositions and engineering of Stokes' first and second CD releases. The first CD entitled HEAR YOU CALLIN' is a collection of mostly Stokes' originals, laced with a few licensed and tastefully arranged covers. Progressive Blues marks the color of this initial bold statement, and listeners have nothing but the best comments to offer. The 2nd CD release is entitled LEAVIN' BLUES, loaded with plenty of hot blues guitar, vocals, and the saxophone work of Jennifer Mazziotti. Probably the greatest difference between the first and second CD's would be a specific focus on hard core Blues---both style and delivery---and everyone who has heard Stokes' latest work is certainly glad they did !
The MARTY STOKES BAND performs in clubs around Florida, in places like Berts Bar at Matlacha, George and Wendys on Sanibel, Cadillac Jacks in South Ft. Myers, Space 39, Downtown Fort Myers, Englewoods on Dearborn (Bluz Under The Starz), Flounders (Englewood Beach) , BB Kings in West Palm, Chrissy's Tavern in Naples, The Blue Monkey (Naples), SS Hookers in Punta Rassa, Marco Island Fish Co, as well as several other venues. Marty's band has traveled to compete in the annual IBC competions, and 'placed' in both the South Florida, as well as Suncoast Blues Societies, and winning the Peoples' Choice Award in both of the 2013 & 2014 competitions, and winning the 2016 IBC for SW Florida's best band as well as 2016 People's Choice Award, sponsored by the Southwest Florida Blues Society. Marty Stokes has also wowed audiences in the Blues Festivals of Pine Island, Bonita , and Buckingham. The band also performed at the 2011 Bonita Blues Festival for a 2nd time, receiving the popular vote (held online) for 'Peoples Favorite Act'.
